THANK YOU,  Nichol Feltes and Melanie Monroe, for being my assistants today.   Mrs. Guell was home with a sick child.

We say a special prayer for Quintin and Bryce.  We miss you and hope you are feeling better soon.

Friday

My birthday treat brought smiles.  The Very Hungry Caterpillar was delicious.
We started our day in God's house.  Thank you, Pastor Parsons, for the message.  We were reminded that just as a lifeguard listens, watches and responds, our God listens, watches and responds to all our needs, especially our need for a Savior.

We reviewed Tic, Tac and Toc today in Superkids.  We read  and spelled more words, too.

In math, we discussed picto-graphs.  Do 7B for homework.

I read my favorite book for my birthday, Roxaboxen!  Ask about this kid made town many years ago in AZ.  What a creative group of kids!

This afternoon we finished our writing/art project, a Reflection of Summer.  See them in the hallway when you come to church this weekend.   We also drew a butterfly with symmetry and began to paint it.

Eli brought more caterpillars.  These are staying here!  It will be fun to watch them grow and change.  They are already eating lots!

Happy B-day to Abigail P.  (We share the same b-day) Your  brownies were delicious.

Thursday

Bible:  We  reviewed  Adam and Eve's first sin and talked about how the devil tempts us, too.  How grateful we are that God fulfilled his promise to Adam and Eve by sending his Son Jesus to "crush Satan's head" and open the doors to heaven for us.  The kids did a nice job reciting Jn 3:16, each one alone.  Tomorrow is chapel.

Superkids:  We learned about vowels  today.  Can your child name all 5?  What sounds does each say.  The o and u still confuse some of us.

Math; 6 B is homework. We discussed the differences between a circle, square and rectangle.

Today we also began our first writing project.  First we brainstormed about Summer,  Then we did a quick sketch about our favorite summer activity and finally wrote about it.   This will be incorporated with Art tomorrow.

The kids enjoyed one math station and one reading station today, too.

See  the Weekly Note and September calendar (on back) that came home today.

Have a nice evening.

Wednesday

Bible:  Adam and Eve sinned.  God promised a Savior.  Pastor Parsons also stopped by.  We began our day with his devotion.  Each Wednesday, an 8th grader will lead our morning devotion.  Jn 3:16 is our Memory Treasure due  tomorrow.  We have been singing the school hymn, Our God Our Help in  Ages Past daily.  Can't wait to sing it in church this weekend.

Superkids:  Today we reviewed Golly's trip to the vet and practiced the letters M, N, P, W, and V.

Math:  Lesson 5B is homework.  We practiced the numbers  2, 3 and 7 as they all start on the left and move to the right.

Music with Mrs. H and gym.  Ask about our "Home base" game and collecting "mail."

Science- we reviewed the life cycle of a butterfly.  Ask us what it means to "molt."  Why does a butterfly need a "probiscus?"

Have a great evening.  I am off to watch my son play football for WLA Jr. Vikes "under the lights" tonight.

Monarch caterpillars from Eli visited our class last week.

We watched  a butterfly video.

Team work in Math on Tuesday.

Tuesday

Good afternoon!

Today we reviewed more letters and got  reacquainted with Icky.  We are blending letters /sounds and reviewing sight words.  Today was "for."  Mrs. Jahnke and I were very impressed with the handwriting we saw today.

In math we built fabulous towers with desk mates, 1-9.  Do Math 4B tonight.  The kids love doing math stations.  I am correcting backwards numbers when I see them.

We started in our English book today and met Quigley.  He is most happy when we are organized, listening well, prepared, and working hard.  Each day we are polishing those skills.

Science was a highlight of the day.  Yesterday I had the students think of questions.  Last night I did research to answer our questions.  What fun to watch these butterfly videos and find answers to our questions at this site.

Monday

Welcome  to a new week.

Our  Bible lesson today was the creation of Adam and Eve.  God showed love to Adam by giving him a special friend, Eve, giving them a beautiful home, the Garden of Eden, and by making them the crown of his creation.  Our Memory Treasure is Gen 1:1 again.  "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

We reviewed more letters and sounds with the Superkids.  I have seen some beautiful handwriting.  We are working hard on that now, so the rest of the year will be a breeze.  Ask about Hot Rod's Fast Cat's problem.

We did lesson 3 in math.  Please review and do side 3B at home and send it back.

The class went to Mrs H for music today.  We had gym after and played a movement/pair game.  Finally, we talked about the life cycle of the  butterfly and wrote questions for us to find the answer to tomorrow.  We hope Eli can bring back his caterpillars.  Over the weekend he said two made their chrysalis.  Bella also may bring one in.   We can't wait.

Many papers went home today.  The only ones that need to come back are the assignment chart and math 3B.  You may take the rest out.

Happy Birthday Abby Walta (Aug 9).  She shared treats on Friday.  Thanks!

Happy reading all the new library books that went home!

Friday

Good afternoon!

What a fun day.  Thank you, Eli, for bringing in real monarch caterpillars.  They are a beautiful creation.  We look forward to watching them eat, grow and change in the coming days.

Our day started in God's word as we reviewed the Creation account.  Today we talked about how we can show God we are thankful for his creation.  Can your child remember the three things God created that we need just for our container of choc. milk (cow, tree, and cocoa plant).  Sugar, too, I  suppose.  See your child's Creation coloring page.  Finally, I introduced the first article of the creed.  We will practice the creed over the next several weeks at school.

We polished our handwriting and did more review with the Superkids.

Math- The first math sheet was sent home today.  We also did one more station.

Ask about counting to 10 in Spanish.  The paper is in their Spanish folder at school.  Lastly, we ended our day with cool art project.  We will finish that next week.

New library books were sent home, if the others were returned.

Have a wonderful weekend.  Take time to REST in God's Word and nourish your soul, as God did on the 7th  day.

Mrs.  Weigand

Day 2

We had another busy day.  Today we tried to follow our normal schedule.   We started our day in God's Word.  Your children are getting more familiar with the Creation account.  How amazing is God's wisdom and power.

Everyone was excited to get back into the Superkids!  We were jammin' to our favorite songs and reviewing the letters C, D, G, O,  and A.

We did our Math calendar and one round of math stations.

Ask for a rendition of Up the Ladder!  We are rocking to that rhythmic name game.

We went out and found milkweed plants in our field and fed our pet caterpillar.  He is devouring our fresh leaves.

We ended the day by choosing a library book.  I plan to send one home each night.  Yes, your children will need help reading the books now, but they are building vocabulary, word recognition, language structure, and reading comprehension.  All these skills will help them as they become more fluent readers!

Sorry about the wrong info on the right.  I will try to fix that.

First Day of School!

First Day of School  2015
Welcome to the first day of school!  We had so much fun.  A big welcome to our new students, Quintin and Abby (both front left in picture).

We started our day in chapel with a devotion from Mr. H.  We will be witnesses for Jesus, our Lord and Savior!
After chapel, the students helped write the rules for our classroom.  We talked about what to Do and what to Be in school.   Your children mentioned being kind, respectful, quiet and caring.  This year is going to be great!  I will write the rules on a lovely chart and tomorrow the kids will sign it.

We had snack and recess!  See our Math About Me sheet for our introduction back into using numbers.  A few items were too hard and that is OK.  Then we did two Name Games.  Ask about "I am ______, Who is_____?"  We also did a rhythmic, chanting game, "Up the a Ladder."

At story time  I read Our Best School Year Ever,  Then came lunch and recess.

After lunch I briefly taught the Creation story.  Please read it tonight with your child.  We will review it Th and Fr.  (1 A in binder).   Our Memory Treasure is Gen 1;1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (I will make sure to get an NIV 11 translation to get us on track with the school).

I introduced our Job chart and 4 Star Behavior chart.  I also introduced our library.  We had to meet our class caterpillar and see how much of a leaf he ate just since Monday!  We also gave him a fresh new milkweed leaf!

In gym we played two new games outside, Cat and Mice, and Four Corners.

Finally we read Froggy Goes to Hawaii.  Tomorrow we will compose a class book about our Summer vacation.

See your child's homework chart in the binder.  I told  them about Kids of Wisconsin being in FdL tonight.  This amazing group of teens will sing, dance and play instruments in our Buttermilk Ck park tonight!  The concert starts at 7:15.  It is free!  Please try to come, even if you can just make it for a couple songs.  I know bedtime is important!

Blessings as we start the year together!  Mrs. W
