Faith Alive  The school newsletter will be sent out today.  It is loaded with information!   

Science: We are wrapping up our natural resources unit.  I posted the video we watched yesterday on the blog.  It was a good experiment about water pollution.  We have also done some work in our science journal.   

Reading Log:  Thanks for signing each night.  Keep it up.  
Reading Assessment: We took a reading test in class today.  I checked it and sent it home.  I am proud of the independent work!        

Clarinet Guest: Daryan Rosenthal played his clarinet for us in class today.  It was better than Hot Rod’s talent show performance.   

Xtra Math:  No new names to share this week.  We continue to practice our math facts.    

FieldTrip to Bookworm Gardens is on May 11.  I have many drivers.   Thanks for being willing.  Remember to pack lunches and send car seats.    

Math Stations: This week:  1)  XtraMath on ipads  2) coin counting 3) measuring and 4) fact practice.

“Wing It” K-4th grade Musical is on May 6th at 1:30 and 6:30.  Plan to attend.  Our class will  be cardinals.  Red shirts have been ordered for the class.  We will also wear hats.  They have been ordered, too.  

Musical Treats:  Only First grade is in charge of bringing treats next Friday night!  I will get  a google doc ready after school and email it so you can sign up.  If you have trouble accessing it,  just let me know and I will put you down for something.  Thanks for the contributions.

Book Order:  Our final book order slips were sent home last week.  You may send an order form back or order online.  My code is GVM93.  Orders due Wednesday,  May 4th.  Happy summer reading!!!

Bible:  8B  A Young Boy Lives   MT  The 3rd Article .  We have practiced much.  Say it a few more times at home.  Ask about the actions.

Reading: Read "The Lesson" tonight.  Daryan Rosenthal- please give us a private clarinet concert and lesson tomorrow.

Math:  Station work today.  No homework.

Gym:  Fun catching and throwing stations.   Music:  Musical songs

Science: Air, land and water pollution was our topic.   We watched a cool experiment video.  We only watched the first few minutes.    Water pollution experiment

Tuesday

Bible: Review of Elijah Goes to Heaven.

Reading: We practiced our ow and ou words.   We also had time to read to ourselves.
I read the book "The Scrambled States Talent Show."  Ask about it.   We finished Mrs. Piggle Wiggle yesterday.

Math: Lesson 122   Color in parts of a whole group.

Writing:  We brainstormed a setting and description for a story we will write later in the week.

Science:  Our topic today was land and water resources on earth, and naming them (mountain, river, island, ...)

Books and Reading Logs were sent home.

THANKS to Noah Walta and Eliza Rabe (5th and 6th grade) for coming to class today to share their stories (forensics pieces).  They were entertaining.  Ask about the missing substitute teacher and how a pig out-smarted a fox.

Monday

Good  afternoon!   We had a great day today.

Bible:  8A  Elijah Goes to Heaven.  MT  Jn 14:19  Because I live, you also will live.

Reading:  New poems today.  I did not send them home, though.  The topic is food.  :)
We also started unit 8 in Superkids and the the /ou/ sound,  spelled ow or ou.  Read and sign the reading log tonight.

Math:  Lesson 121  We practiced subtraction number sentences with a difference (answer) of one.  7-6=1     4-3=1.  We also made corrections to the test to fix and learn from our mistakes.

Science:  Air was our resource today.  Ask about my experiment.

Gym:  We did some great stations today.   The toss and catch with a scoop (container) was a favorite.  The kids loved throwing to a target (hoop) on the wall, too.  I am seeing some good overhand throws.

Musical practice.  Today we were in the gym.  It is coming together.

Bible: Review of Naboth's Vineyard

Reading: Read a book and sign Reading Log

English:  We did a few pages in our workbook about sticking to a single topic when writing.  The kids also drew and then wrote about a kite.  We tried to use lots of descriptive words.

Math:  Stations today.  NO HOMEWORK!

Science:  Water is our natural resource of today.  Ask about our experiments.

Weekly Note was sent home today.

The Field  Trip permission slip was also sent home.

Gardening Wednesday!





Members of the Master Gardeners of Fond du Lac came to our "yard" today.  One was Joseph Schrieber's grandma.  We planted terrariums.  What fun to get our hands dirty and create beautiful project.  Directions for caring for the terrarium were also sent home. 

Bible: Review story 7B and study the Memory Treasure.  Rom 6:23. 

Reading:  Read "The Runaway Dragon" in the Superkids book.  Study spelling words.

Math:  We measured in centimeters today.  Do lesson 119 tonight. 

Science:  After digging in soil, we read about soil as a resource.  Can your child name the three kinds?  Topsoil, sandy soil and clay.

Bible:  review 7A. Elijah and the Prophets of Baal

Reading: We wrote "opinion" papers, reviewed our pattern words, reviewed the "Slumber Party."  Read and sign Log tonight.

Math:  Bar graph about Eye Color.  Brown:6, blue:14, and green:9. Do lesson 118.

Science: Rocks.   He class loved passing around rocks from my college geology collection.

Musical practice, too.

My chatty class did miss a few minutes of recess today because they did not stop talking.  New seating arrangement toinght. 😊

Bible:  7A  Elijah and the Prophets of  Baal.  MT    Is 43:11  I, even I, am the Lord, apart from me there is no Savior.

Reading:   Read a book and sign the new Log.  We read a short story in class and made a story map to discuss characters, problem and solution.

Math:  Lesson 117  Making equal parts (fractions).

English:  The kids did a page by themselves.   We usually do it together.  No I will see who really knows the material and who needs extra help.

S.St.  We finished our  "America" unit.  We reviewed  Yellowstone and Washington,  DC.  No homework.

Gym:  Toss or throw a ball through a hoop.  Music: Musical  practice.

I treated the class to Tootsie Pops for singing at the nursing home yesterday.  

Do you recognize the shoes above?  All the kids worked on making symmetrical designs with pattern blocks at a math station today.  Cool!

Devotion:   The 8th Grade class shared the Story of Redemption for chapel today.  Every student recited scripture.  They will do this for their examination service, just before being confirmed on April 24th.  

Reading:  More spelling and writing practice with the /er/ sound spelled or, ar, or ear.  We also listened to and read a non-fiction book about America's National Parks.  The pictures were fabulous. 

Math:  Station work today, no homework.  1) ipad  2) symmetry with pattern blocks, 3) Counting coins with me and 4) Addends to Ten, and Math War with Mrs.  Monroe.  

We ended the day with play practice, our first one.  It was fun to listen to the 4th grade parts.  Now we know the story, not just  the songs.  

A young boy and his mom visited our class this morning.  Ryder may be in first grade here at Faith next year.

Thursday

There is a third gentleman at this table,  just off the picture to the left.  We made their day.  Look at their smiles.  This guy wanted "high fives" as we were walking out.  

Our class just winds through the whole dining room.  We sang in two different buildings (dining rooms) on that campus.  The sound of the 25 kids was incredible.  The residents were very touched.  

Eli found a special friend.  
We all shared pictures that we painted this morning.  Some said, "I still have it from the last time you came."  

Bible Time:  Review of Israel's Leaders Turn Away.   MT were recited.

Superkids:  Read "The Slumber Party" tonight.  Sign the Reading Log for the final time this week.  Thanks.  

Math: Lesson 116.    We practiced our coin counting today.  Dimes, nickels and pennies together.  

S.St.  I shared pictures of our family trip to Yellowstone on the  Smartboard.

Better late than never.  I had a dental appointment after school.

Bible:    Solomon allowed his wives to lead him from the true God.  King Jeroboam also strayed from God.  Read  6B tonight.  MT:  Acts 5:29 We must obey....

Reading:  We wrapped up unit 6 with a spelling test and review of our words.  Everyone brought a new book home to read tonight.  Thanks for signing the Reading Log.

Math:  Test today.  No homework.

S.St. Yellowstone visit via a great picture book.

Gym:  Practice throwing with good form to a target.  Music: Mrs.  H,  musical practice.

Field Trip tomorrow.  Drivers come at 11:45.  Thanks.

Bible: Review of Solomon's Wisdom.    We are grateful that God has made us all wise through his Word.   May we study it all our lives and continue to grow in Him.  MT:  All recited it in pairs.

Reading: Superkids.   We reviewed our story "The Lost  Mitt."  We did several workbook pages to review comprehension and practice our spelling and phonics words.  Read a book of choice tonight and sign the reading log.  

Math: Lesson  115  We learned the last 4 odd ball math facts.  3+8, 8+4, 5+8, 6+8

English: We practiced common and proper nouns, and singular and plural nouns.

Writing:  The kids wrote a short piece about who they would  put on their Mt.Rushmore.    Ask to see it.

The Fine Arts Fair was very fun.  The children got their judges' sheets and ribbons today.  Talk about  them and congratulate them.  We all got a first for our class weaving quilt, too.

Bible: Read 6A Solomon's Wisdom.  MT  2 Tim 3:15 From infancy... (see homework chart).

Reading:  Superkids.   Please reread "The Lost Mitt."  Sign the reading chart.

Math:  Lesson 114.

S.St: We read and watched a video about how they made Mt. Rushmore.  I am proud of my home state's monument.

Gym:  We did more practice with tossing and catching bean bags and small balls.   Toss under the leg was comical.  The kids enjoyed trying to throw and catch (solo) against a wall.

Bible: We reviewed Absalom Sins today.

Reading: We reviewed our story and our spelling words. Ask to read the mini-book that we made. Everyone took home a book to read tonight, too.

Faith Alive  The school newsletter will be sent out today.  It is loaded with information!   

New Social Studies Unit:  Washington DC this week,  Yellowstone and Mt.  Rushmore next week.  

Dinner on Saturday night.  I am sending home an order form for the 50s Dinner this Saturday night.  The money will go to support the teens going to the youth rally in CO this summer.  Return the form and money by tomorrow and I will get it to the right people.  THANKS.  Great cause, no dishes, and delicious food sound good to me.  

Field Trip next week.  Thanks.  I have enough drivers, but will take more if your schedule allows.  We will sing at the Woodlands.   

English:  We are getting good at common nouns and proper nouns.  Today we learned the rules for using a and an.  Use a before words that begin with a consonant, and an before words that start with a vowel.  Help us practice that rule in our speech.  :)   

Fine Arts Fair:  Tomorrow night at 6:30.  First grade opens the night by singing and playing handbells.  About 12 thought they were coming.  I entered art work for every student, too.  Come see.  There will be plenty of musicians to listen to, too.

Bible:  Review of David Sins.  Nice job on the MT today.

Superkids:  Read "For the Birds"  It is a long story, but we enjoyed it!

Math:  Lesson 111.  Today we learned 4 "odd ball facts"  5+3, 6+3, 7+4 and 7+5.

S.St: We started our study of Washington, DC.  Our focus today was the White  House.

English:  We practiced naming common and proper nouns.

No Book Bag tonight since the story is so long.

Welcome Back!!!

We are back in the groove from our Spring Break.  You kids were very excited to see each other this morning and share all about their vacation.

Bible:  Read 5A  David Sins.  His coveting (and lust) led him to murder.  God sent a prophet Nathan to help David recognize his sin.  May we confess like David our many sins and know they are forgiven through Christ.   Our MT is 1 Peter 5:8  Be alert and of sober mind... (see homework chart).

Reading:  We started a new Superkids unit today.  Everyone also started a new Reading Log.  Thanks for listening to your reader and signing their log.  New spelling words should be in the money pouch.
Math:  We did miscellaneous work today.  We counted cups of water that fill a pint, quart and gallon.  We also solved some story problems by drawing pictures.  Everyone had a turn to practice facts on the ipad, too.  

Science:  We completed a Weather graph in our yearly journal.  I meant to send home our Weather Journal, but forgot!!!  Sorry.  I will send that home tomorrow.

English:  Our new lesson was about common nouns (dog) and proper nouns (Golly).

Gym:  We started a new unit on throwing and catching.  Music:  Musical practice.

Welcome to Mrs. Melanie Monroe (Phoenix's mom).  She will be our new classroom aid on M/W/F.  It is great to have her among us.  

I sent home a permission slip for our trip to the nursing home next Thursday.

I also sent home the April calendar.  It is blue (on the backside of our morning work).

First grade will sing and play handbells this Friday night for the Fine Arts Fair right at 6:30.  Please come if you are able, but it is not mandatory.  I am hoping I at least get 12 kids since I have 12 handbells.
